Learn to Say No To Bells and Whistles

Hot tub prices vary from one brand to another, even when those two brands possess identical features and are made of the same kind of materials.

Hot Tub Prices -The Variables

One would then suspect as to where all that price difference is coming from. Could it be from the professed quality materials being better from the other manufacturer or could it just be the variation in the salesperson’s sales commission? In general, one gets the impression that more expensive hot tubs are of better workmanship and performance but that can be the contrary in some brands of hot tubs. When the steep hot tub price does not reflect the efficiency and durability of one, then there is reason to suspect the price is derived from other expenses rather than on the quality of materials and production. There are aspects in production as well as marketing that influence hot tub prices. One needs to pay attention to these aspects to make sure one knows where the money he or she is paying for goes to:

  • Quality of product and materials – hot tubs made of quality components and materials always cost more. These are hot tubs that will last longer and perform better. There are so-called “cheap hot tubs” that claim to be made of excellent materials at affordable cost but that should trigger some doubts on a buyer’s part. How can a manufacturer produce a superior product at such a low cost? Perhaps the vinyl used is inferior and cheaper or the jet’s mechanism is not the adjustable type that is more expensive to make. Or the electronic device is of generic quality, which means it may not be a durable as those produced by reputable manufacturers.

  • Advertising and Labeling - these can add up to the cost of a hot tub but in no way affect its efficient functioning. Notice that products constantly advertised on TV and other print media cost much more than those with less exposure to the public. This is not to say advertised products are of bad quality; this only means that part of the cost of the product is the money poured into heavy marketing efforts. Labeling and branding of a hot tub may also add up to its price. There are fees and licenses involved when registering a product under a brand and the ultimate effect is for consumers to subscribe to a product only because of its brand, not because of its quality.

  • Accessory Overkill – before considering shelling out extra for the most tricked out hot tub in your neighborhood, consider how useful all those bells and whistles are or if you’ll have any need for them down the road. It can be very tempting getting a flip-up TV set and not miss out on your favorite ball game but will you really need such a distraction when all you need is some quiet soak up meditation time in your hot tub?

  • Showroom Expenses – it can be quite an experience walking into a hot tub showroom feasting your eyes on ready-to-use hot tubs and developing the compulsion to immediately hand out your credit card based on what you actually see and feel. Note that maintaining and operating such a display area comes with a cost – electricity, manpower salaries and commissions. What many do not realize is that part of the purchase price is the dealer’s overhead expenses. It is best to browse the internet to compare hot tub prices and other useful information before making a decision to part with a paycheck for your dream hot tub.
